Fantasy vs. Reality …

So, I was up last night battling to sleep and had just watched one of my new favourite series True Blood and it got me thinking…

What is it that appeals to us so much about these rough and tough guys we always seem to be attracted to? I mean, Bill is a vampire in True Blood, so technically, he’s dead! He also looks sort of grungy and dirty! He’s not claiming to be a nice guy, he’s quite blatantly stating he’s a vampire and he has his needs and Sookie (the female lead) is eating it all up! And so are we, the viewers! We’re watching and fantasising about being Sookie!

I was at dinner with Funny Girl last week and we’d had a couple of glasses of wine and started chatting, naturally, about men, sex, dating, etc. And we both started talking about True Blood and how into this new series we were! Here we are, 2 attractive, educated, sophisticated, “nice girls” and we’d so go there with Bill the Vampire!

Sure, it’s fantasy! Which brings me to my next observation. Fantasy vs. Reality. Sure we all fantasise about all sorts of exciting, and sometimes weird, things. Does this mean we would actually like to fulfill that fantasy? I’m sure some do. I am firmly of the opinion that fantasy is far better left as that. But does this mean I am missing out or depriving myself somehow? Hmmm…

So, these are the things I know…

1. Bill can roughly take me in his arms and devour me anytime … IN MY DREAMS!

2. If Bill actually presented himself in real life, I would run faster than Zola Bud with no shoes on!

3. I am a fan of True Blood and vampire fantasies.
